MDS which is South London’s premier plumbing and heating stockist has seen off the “Beast from the East” or as we like to say “a little bit of cold weather”. Certainly a very busy week on the central heating front. Plenty of boiler spares and parts have been sold to keep the boilers of London working and end users warm in their homes. What really has surprised us is the amount of new boilers we have sold over the February. Our big four sellers have been Vaillant, Worcester, Ideal and Ariston boilers so there has been something for everyone. A number of other boiler models like Intergas and Baxi have also sold well so far. There always tends to be a bit of a panic when central heating fails in cold weather and on a personal level I think that sometimes boilers are sold and fitted when it was not really necessary to do so. It really does pay to maintain a gas boiler using a competent heating engineer to do so. Often small cheap repairs are overlooked in the rush to replace the broken down boiler. Just a small tip at this time of year when air temperature is below zero for long periods of time. Condensing boilers have condense pipes which weep into the drain and unless these condense waste pipes are really well insulated they can freeze up. Often if you look at your boiler fault codes you will find a frozen (blocked) condense waste. Thawing out the waste pipe with a hair drier or hot water will cure the problem but a more permanent solution like rerunning or insulting the waste will prevent it reoccurring. MDS is South London’s number one boiler and heating products stockist as well as selling most plumbing items so call anytime for help, advice or prices.
